Launch yourself into the stars with Skyway Man’s new interstellar video for “The Holding On,” from his upcoming concept album, Flight of the Long Distance Healer.
Available from Mama Bird Records on November 3rd, the Oakland-based artist’s new glam-infected folk rock album is inspired by a trove of surreal letters he discovered in his attic. Written by a Dr. James Cyr and all addressed to the same woman, these letters spanned a six year period in the late 80s/early 90s, and made references to an alien-based spiritual practice, the dawning of a new era for the human race and other mystical ideas. Skyway Man, real name James Wallace, actually tracked down the writer and receiver of these letters, and this record became the fruit of those unreal interactions.
The album’s cosmic setting and atmosphere, and its hints of loneliness, isolation and soulful connection feel warmly present in this single, as well as its epic sci-fi music video. Check it out:
Directed and edited be Drew Bourdet.
Joined by a stellar crew of notable guests like, Andy Cabic of Vetiver, Erin Rae, Spencer Cullum and Kelly McFarling, among others, this is a record full of heart, strange ambience and enticingly cool ear candy. Ziggy Stardust would gladly approve.
