The tracks on Hal Lambert and Mitchell Mobley’s excellent The A-Z of Bullshit are more like sonic environments than songs. They blossom and envelop around you, drawing you deeper and deeper within their all-encompassing world of shimmering, rumbling instrumentation.

From quiet banjo meditations to mystical sound baths and cataclysmic post-rock rituals, the pieces on this record stretch all across the volume and energy spectrum and display the duo’s vast versatility. Tracks like “Lines in the Dream House Bathroom” pulse and drone with warm distortion and revolve around cyclical jazzy rhythms like a grittier Spiral Wave Nomads or Chris Corsano cut. Meanwhile, the album’s closer, “Honey Yogurt,” reveals the group’s more rock-dominant side, as they wade through a sludgy grunge-infused jam that could easily and enjoyably stretch out for an extra 20 or so minutes.

If you are in need of an album with a massive range of styles, textures and moods, The A-Z of Bullshit is a perfect choice. Get it from Island House Recordings today.
