With desert ambient supergroup Prairiewolf’s second LP, Deep Time, just around the corner (9/20 on Centripetal Force/Worried Songs!), the band (Stefan Beck, Jeremy Erwin and Tyler Wilcox) put together a diverse and endlessly entertaining mix of music by artists from their home state of Colorado. Check it out:

Mountain Meander: A Collection of Colorado Sounds

A collection of sonic adventurers from the Centennial state. Free of genre constraints and traveling far in space and time, the artists here represent a slice of Colorado’s vibrant and creative musical community. The sounds range from modified guitar soli to modular synth meditations to earthy jazz and music altogether unclassifiable. Some of the songs here may be inspired by Colorado’s natural beauty, while others evoke urban grit or spaces found only in the mind.

Many of these artists we came to know and befriend through the kind and supportive scene fostered by Denver’s cozy DIY spot Glob and the Thunder Shout Presents music series. Others are musical heroes and sources of inspiration. Some we have shared stages and bills with or collaborated with  (Rayonism aka Matt Loewen plays clarinet on Deep Time cut ‘Revisionist Mystery’ and Stefan plays guitar and lap steel here on Clouds & Mountains’ ‘Autumn Lullaby.’) Taken altogether, these twenty songs reflect a diverse and vibrant musical landscape that transcends scene and genre.
