It might only be early February, but John Andrews & The Yawns brought the breezy spring vibes today by releasing a brand new single, “Checks in The Mail,” to announce their upcoming album on the Woodsist label.
Taken from their fourth record, Love For The Underdog, which will be released April 28th, “Checks in The Mail” is a soothing tune that would have fit easily on a Jim Sullivan LP. The track features a bed of soft nylon string fingerpicking, electric piano and Andrews’ gentle vocal work, all gliding underneath a string section. The ambience is reminiscent of LA folk rock classics of the late ’60s/early ’70s, like Forever Changes and UFO, as well as the much more modern sounds of Vetiver. Check it out for yourself:
Recorded live straight to tape in various studios and apartments across New York, Love For The Underdog will win you over with its introspective and wry lyrics, chamber pop arrangements and mellow melodies. Click here to preorder your copy today.
