The legendary indie singer-songwriter has returned under a new moniker to release some sweetly mellow country-folk morsels.

Available June 30th on Perpetual Doom and Curly Cassettes, Gary Owens: I Have Some Thoughts features Graves, A.K.A. Greg Olin, at perhaps his most laid back. With a voice as smooth as whiskey and a backing of warm guitars, pedal steel and airy drums, Olin wades deep into the atmospheres of early morning truck stops and late night honky tonks. There’s a swaying, woozy quality to most of these tracks, and it’s endlessly charming.

For a taste of this folksy easygoing vibe, check out the brand new video for “Direct Light Sun.”

The video is sourced from the 1964 Supermarionation series, ‘Stingray’, created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

Olin’s ballads are filled with vivid descriptions of the quirks, joys and disappointments of a simple life, so they’re effortlessly timeless and relatable. With heartfelt stories and a beguiling sense of humor at their core, these songs could easily become new favorites for fans of John Prine, Michael Hurley and Jerry David DeCicca.

If you’re in need of a record that captures the feeling of when you’re driving alone all day and your only friend is a crackly AM radio country station, then give this one a try.
