East coast cosmic Americana rockers, The Royal Arctic Institute, has just released a dreamy music video for their track, “The Opener,” from their excellent new self-titled LP on Centripetal Force.
The video, of which is a meditatively minimalist DIY affair, greatly emphasizes the song’s relaxing, glimmering qualities. Closeup shots of raindrops producing hypnotic rings of small ripples echo the song’s reverberating pedal steel, crashing gong-like cymbals and trickling synthesizers.
Director John Newcomer had this to say about the making of the video, “Royal Arctic’s music always had a shimmery quality to me. Plus, it can be tough to shoot around rain when it simply won’t stop – so I decided to join those two ideas together.”
