Stefan Beck’s various ambient adventures always transport you to strange new worlds and deeply relaxed zones, yet on this latest offering on Eiderdown Records, he steers the Golden Brown project into murkier, marshy waters.

From swampy ritualistic processions (“Whisker Fatigue”) and melty guitar meditations (“Ancestral Slime”) to grand oozy epic soundscapes (“Beelzebufo”), this record is a journey through uncharted territory for Beck. Whereas many of his past releases were more sunny, zen-like releases, this record is muddier, full of sludgy, rippling guitars and gurgling synths and drippy drum machines. This sonic atmosphere conjures images of steaming primordial pools, sweltering jungles and colossal prehistoric amphibious beasts, of which “Beelzebufo” was named after, stalking the night.

Whisker Fatigue is a soundbath miasma. Let it pull you under.
