New Album Alert: Pelt Returns with Resistance Reticence

Pelt, one of the preeminent forces within the world of noise rock and experimental folk over the last few decades, has returned with possibly their strongest release in years: Resistance Reticence.

Released as part of Three Lobed Recordings’ excellent 20th anniversary series (which already has some of the best albums of the last year), this record features Pelt’s surviving core members, Mike Gangloff (fiddle), Nathan Bowles (banjo and percussion), Patrick Best (piano and harmonium) and Mikel Dimmick (also harmonium, bells and bowls) performing live with a superb amount of control and an almost supernatural sense of synchronization.

Across two suite-length tracks, this indomitable lineup conjures mystical realms and ghostly dream worlds without the aid of effects and overdubs. Here, Pelt is doing what they do best; reaching a hypnagogic zone through elemental string music, drones and ritualistic percussion, all approached with a psychedelic openness.
