Music Video Premiere: “Black-Eyed Susan,” by Big Girl

Big Girl flexes their power pop garage muscles on the anthemic “Black-Eyed Susan.”

Taken from their upcoming LP, Big Girl VS GOD (due out early next year), this follow up to their excellent “Summer Sickness” single features the NYC-based group rocking out heavier and more poignantly than ever.

With lyrics that tell of a scarred and roughened girl who’s stepping out on her own after one too many black eyes, this tune mixes sweet harmonies with ferocious riffs and syrupy slide guitar. Much like the lyrics, the song musically combines cathartic harshness and delicate warmth, complete with chainsaw electric guitar solos and twinkling vocalizations.

Check out the charming lyric video, animated by Magdalene Kennedy, below and be ready to feel like you can take on any shit that’s headed your way today:

Sounding somewhere between Tom Petty, Cherry Glazerr and Veruca Salt, Big Girl delivers hard on this track. Click here to listen to it on Spotify, and be sure to keep an ear out for their debut full-length in 2023.
