Wilco’s Patrick Sansone fired up his arsenal of vintage synthesizers to compose six new interstellar soundscapes for his upcoming solo ambient release, Infinity Mirrors. Set to be released by Centripetal Force Records on March 1st, this is a record that all kosmische musik heads will want to celebrate and savor.

Sansone, of whom you may also know as being a member of the The Autumn Defense or Mellotron Variations, leans deeply into his more minimalist side here, allowing for the texture, color and personality of his instruments to shine through and establish the atmosphere of each track.
The album’s opening cut, “Measures,” is available today and can be heard below. The track sets the cosmic and mysterious tone of the record with its ominous thumping intro, which recalls Wendy Carlos’ themes for The Shining. These heartbeat-like pulses give way to trickling melodic fragments and a swelling chorus of dreamy electronic voices that could easily fit on a late ’70s Tangerine Dream score. The piece is a veritable flowing stream of smooth, encompassing sound that sweeps you away into a monochromatic sea of celestial tones.
