Buck Curran (Featuring Jodi Pedrali) – “Sadness”

Psych folk and guitar soli wizard, Buck Curran, returns with a moving and meditative piece of steely post-rock that will haunt and hypnotize you deeply and thoroughly.

With the assistance of Jodi Pedrali on Fender Rhodes and other keyboards, Curran coasts the listener into a sea of weary electric guitar tones that mirror our troubled and uncertain times.

Inspired by John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman, the four and a half minute instrumental meanders down shadowy passageways and cloudy banks of reverb-drenched melancholia. Just about every moment of this track features ghostly harmonies between the two musicians that feel somehow outside of time, as if they’re calling from some distant place between realms. If Neil Young’s Dead Man score wandered into a slightly jazzier direction, then this might be how it would’ve sounded.

While you’re here, now is a good time to also mention Curran’s fundraiser to restore Robbie Basho’s legendary 12 string guitar:

“We are raising money to restore Robbie Basho’s 12 String. The guitar needs a lot of work (a new neck block, the broken rosette needs to be fixed, the back needs to be temporarily removed to do much of the work, the neck needs realigned, loose braces, it needs a new protective case etc, etc) and is currently with a great luthier in Brescia. We are accepting donations of 10, 20 or more. At the 10 level of support we are happy to provide 2 downloads for any album we have on our Bandcamp page. 20 or more will give you three downloads plus a digital copy of the various artists archival recording that will eventually be made using the guitar. Thanks so much for your support.”
