Hipwell – Gardenworld

Fall under the hypnotic post-rock ambient spell of Hipwell’s Gardenworld.

Island House Recordings is on a roll. Every release on this label so far has been a total game changer. Gardenworld is certainly no exception.

Adam Hipwell got his start in post punk and post rock groups around Melbourne, Australia, but here, he weaves grand kosmische soundscapes with coiling tendrils of celestial synthesizers. While painting the air with warm drones and pulsing mini-melodies, Hipwell creates soothing vibes that carry you off into the clouds.

This healing atmosphere is especially evident on the dazzling “I Chose You, Too,” with its triumphant climax of shrieking guitars, cascading drums and spirited flute. This is like if Masaki Batoh’s former band, Ghost, reformed with the mysterious Kosmischer Läufer. It’s spacey, psychedelic and absolutely spilling over with an alleviating light. What more could a head ask for?

Fans of Modern Nature, Michael Rother and Gnod would surely enjoy this one. Click here to get your copy on tape or digital today.
