One of RCU’s earliest featured Jersey artists, Mike Noordzy, has returned with a slinky new EP filled with sly, genre-bending instrumentals.

Freshly released on Nacht Records, this album is made up of murky, sultry jazz-fusion tracks flavored with twangy slide resonator guitar. Most of these songs would feel quite at home on the soundtrack of some sort of western-noir hybrid film.

With accordion, trombones and vibes coasting cooly along with distorted guitars and clarinets, this EP has more atmosphere and mood that could be contained within the release’s 19-minute runtime. The release’s unique vibe hangs with you long after you’ve moved on to something else.

While some cuts lean further into jazz, like the snappy “Sirene Sorciere,” others, like “Broads,” lean far closer to a bluesy folk-rock sound. No matter which side of the sonic spectrum Noordzy and his band land on, there is always enough gritty texture, exotica ambience and unexpected turns to keep both casual and experienced listeners extremely interested.
